Movistar's Valverde takes Vuelta Stage 8 from Contador.

Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) won stage 8 of the Vuelta atop the Collada de la Gallina in Andorra, snatching away what looked to be a sure victory for Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank). Race leader Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) finished second, as he and Valverde passed Contador within sight of the finish line. Sky's Chris Froome was unable to keep up in the last few hundred meters, finishing 15 seconds down.

2009 Vuelta winner Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) moved into the race lead after taking victory in the first uphill finish of this year's race in Eibar.

Movistar win Vuelta a Espana opening Team TT

Movistar won the team time trial to kick off the 2012 Vuelta a España on Saturday in Pamplona.

Spaniard Jonathan Castroviejo will start stage 2 in the red jersey of the overall leader.

Catriona Morrison updates us on her latest ''bad luck'' 2012 season

We've just received an update from Catriona where she's fallen victim to the '' bad luck comes in threes '' syndrome. Whilst taking a much needed holiday in Northern Italy poor Catriona took a massive tumble off her bike resulting in the usual tarmac rash plus a broken collar bone. Congratulations to GALIUS supported triathlete, Lucy Gossage for finishing in 5th place at the Ironman 70.3 European Championships in Wiesbaden in a time of 4:44:09.

Great Britain’s Jodie Swallow was the first woman out of the water, and among the top 10 overall racers onto the bike. Beranek took the lead on the bike by mile 15 and never relinquished it. Sophie Hitchon sets new GB record on way to final

GALIUS supported athlete, Sophie Hitchon broke her own British record in the hammer with a throw of 71.98m to reach Friday's final.

The 21-year-old from Burnley struggled with her first two efforts but beat her previous best by 37cm with her final throw to finish fifth in her group and qualify in 10th place.

It was the fourth time Hitchon has beaten the British mark this season.
